Thanks everyone! Map Overview Image You can already view map overviews with Valve's, and with the release of Counter-Strike 1.4, overviews come to all spectator views in the game. To take advantage of map overviews though, you need a map overview image and a description file., uncompress these two files and place them in the 'overviews' folder in your cstrike directory. And to aid in strategy-planning, I created a top-view of the level based on the overview image. What is a WAD?

A WAD is a collection of images called textures used by 3D artists to give the appearance of texture, color and surface to objects rendered on a computer. In the case of DE_MUSEUM, I had to create surfaces that resembled wood, stone, doors, windows, signs, and dinosaur bones. Many of these textures started with digital camera photos. One of the first things I did when I began the de_museum project was go on a photo shoot. There are many historic buildings constructed in classical styles on the East Coast.

Our city courthouse was a good photo subject for textures and designs that would be appropriate for a classical museum design. I took many photos here that served as a foundation for some of the textures seen in de_museum. I'll post more about texture creation soon.
